Advocacy Groups Goals
- Generate evidence from research, projects, and case studies
- Shape aid delivery policies, processes, and standards
- Support/conduct awareness and training to bridge conceptual and policy gaps
One of HLA’s objectives is to influence policy and enable positive change across the sector and we have decided to focus our efforts on three areas:
- Local procurement - looking at the benefits of procuring and (where possible) manufacturing goods involved in humanitarian relief efforts, closer to where they’re needed. The Local Procurement Learning partnership advocacy group aims to Influence how aid money is spent so that international NGOs increase their spend on buying goods and services locally and close the gap between suppliers and buyers through increasing visibility of suppliers, building capacity in the supply chain and lobbying for changes to NGO procurement practices. - Humanitarian health and supply chains - the Covid-19 pandemic bought into sharp focus the need to have robust and co-ordinated approaches to delivering healthcare supplies. This group will look at how traditional supply chains need to evolve to get aid to people faster, and more efficiently. Click here to find out more.
- Last mile transport - delivery of aid is often at its most difficult at the end of its journey. How can technological advances such as drones, and driverless multi-terrain vehicles play their part in reaching remote areas and how do agencies co-ordinate their approaches? This group looks at the challenges bought about by navigating that last mile of the journey. Click here to find out more.
We have established ‘advocacy groups’ for each theme which bring together experts in these fields who will champion the work of their respective groups.
The HLA advocacy groups will generate and promote research papers to generate evidence for change and case studies to highlight best practices. They’ll work on projects which help to shape aid delivery policies, processes, and standards for the benefit of the whole aid supply chain ecosystem.
